HOST: JD Roth
LADY OF THE MAZE: Renae Jacobs
CHANNEL: The Family Channel
PACKAGER: Kline & Friends
THE MAIN GAME:
Three teams of two kids competed
. The main players' teammates would be secluded offstage to an isolation area and the main players would be shown distorted pictures
, and they'd clear up. The one to buzz-in with the right answer would win 10 points and receive a question about the subject of the picture for 5 more points. The player to reach 50 points makes a decision whether they want to go first or second in the main part of the show: the maze.
For the remaining two players, a Speedround. What would happen is the questions would be thrown out. No questions, just pictures. Should an answer be incorrect, a clue towards the picture would be given to the opponent (WITHOUT anymore showing). The first of them to reach 50 points will get the final position in running the maze.
Roth would review the maze with the runner's partner (sometimes, relatives or close friends of the runner or navigator would make a cameo). After talking to the runner about the maze, Roth would always say, "There's someone we have to talk to first." He was referring to the "Lady of the Maze,"
(portrayed by Renae Jacobs). She would warn the contender of the stuff in her Maze, and remind them to find 2 Powersticks, with the guidance of knowledge to help them along the way.
THE MIRROR MAZE:
Consisting of mainly mirrors, the runner would try to find his/her way through the maze
. If lost, the navigator partner would help their partner with the map
and a joystick that would use strobes that vibrate in the direction of the way the joystick is pointed. At the end of the Mirror Maze is the Mirror Man, who will ask the runner a question in order to let him pass. An incorrect guess would result in another question. Another incorrect guess would result in a 5-second penalty before being let through.
When getting out of the Maze, the runner has to find 2 Powersticks between the Mirror Maze and the next segment of the Maze. Sometimes, a Powerstick would be hidden in the Mirror Maze itself. At the halfway point of the Maze, thewould be flashing lights to indicate that the runner must lower their visor, which would have them depend on their navigator to get them through this area:
THE HONEYCOMB MAZE:
![]() |
WARNING! VISOR DOWN! AUDIO ON! That's what a screen would say as strobe lights flashed, warning that the runner must lower their visor, going blindfolded in the Honeycomb Maze. |
The Honeycomb Maze was an entire network of doors and walls that are locked, or unlocked. Once the runner was through the Honeycomb Maze, he/she could raise his visor and use one of his Powersticks to enter the next segment of the Maze.
THE CHAMBER OF KNOWLEDGE:
The Lady of the Maze would appear at the entrance to the Chamber of Knowledge
, reminding the runner to use one of the Powersticks to enter the Chamber, and once inserted, the runner could enter the Chamber of Knowledge. There were 5 Guardians
, 3 of which would ask the runner a true/false question. A question opened one of the 3 gates that led the way out, as an incorrect guess would result in another question. 3 incorrect answers would open the gate automatically. After 3 questions and the 3 doors were open, the runner could leave the Chamber.
After leaving the Maze, the runner could insert their Powerstick into the finish line to stop the clock. They are timed with a clock for the entire race.
The second runner would run through the Maze the same way to try and beat the other player's time. The player with the best time would play an endgame for the fun of it.
THE ENDGAME:
The master of the maze would play an endgame, as well as their navigator giving them a hand. 5 screens on a mountain flashed between PRIZE/NO PRIZE. The winning runner would aim their laser arm at the screen
and when prompted, the navigator would press a button on their joystick which would "fire" the runner's laser at the screen. Shooting and stopping on the word PRIZE
would get them one step closer to the grand prize. If the player could stop the screens on just 3 PRIZEs, the player would win a $500 shopping spree to The Sharper Image in Beverly Hills, CA.

THE "SPECIAL JOURNEY":
No matter the outcome of the prize endgame, the runner would receive a trophy for being the fastest runner in the maze. And, he/she would earn the right to go on a very special journey. Their visor lowered, hands to the side. Watch this:

At the end of each episode, the contender gets to go on a very special journey. Their visor is lowered, hands to the side. |

Then, with special CGI trickery, the suit breaks up and turns into a hovering, flying ball |
![]() |
The flying suit then flies off of Prize Mountain. |
![]() |
Then, the suit flies over the Honeycomb Maze as it continues its fun journey. |
![]() |
And then after crossing past the doors from the Chamber of Knowledge, the suit flies into the video wall from the main game. And after it goes in, it shows the contestant's full name with their maze time |

-The longest running time of the Maze was 4:33.5. A runner went through the Honeycomb Maze, not remembering to get the 2 Power sticks required after the Honeycomb Maze. The runner therefore had to go through the Honeycomb Maze, get the 2 sticks, and then go back through the Honeycomb Maze. Their opponents beat them well over 2 minutes to their time, clocking in at 2:17.8.
-The fastest time ever was 1:56.1, which is preferably a great time. The opponents to this time almost conquered the same time, too. So no matter who won, the teams should've been placed in the record books.
-JD was always playing jokes on the Lady of the Maze. Look here at some times when she was played on:
-She was called the Mirror Lady, and JD said, "We're going to find out her name one day. I'll keep asking her until she tells me."
-"Although you will not find any water balloons, there is my Mirror Man." JD joked that they'll get a water balloon, find her, and get her with it.
-"When you encounter my Mirror Man, do not beat him up." The runner was someone interested in judo.
-JD had said in one episode that she doesn't like anybody. In the next maze run, she said, "JD, you know I like everyone. It's just they must meet the challenges of my maze." And then, JD said, "Yeah, I know she likes everyone. I was just giving her a hard time earlier."
-In one episode, probably for the big lights, a contestant misspelled the word "YELLOW." JD got so mixed up, even though the spelling was right in front of him, he misspelt it too.
-The font for the timer in the Maze was also the same font used for the original timer on Supermarket Sweep.
-Jamil Walker-Smith, who did the voice of Gerald on Nickelodeon's Hey Arnold!, was a navigator on a team on this show. His partner was Matthew Schonfield, who mastered the maze and both won the $500 shopping spree to The Sharper Image in Beverly Hills.
Special thanks to Kenneth Williams for providing me with the episodes of the pictures that were used in this rulesheet
