Bruce Forsyth’s Hot Streak was a show that lasted 13-weeks here in the United States, and one of the best known English hosts, Bruce Forsyth would fly here to host that short-lived show.

THE MAIN GAME

Two teams of 5 competed, menvs. ladies. Bruce would turn to the challenging team’s captain and find out about them…usually, the captain would bash the opposing team. (ex. From ladies: “The men usually dominate, but we’ll prove them wrong.”). The other 4 players would put on headphonesplaying music to immobilize them from hearing and turn away. The first challenger would have a choice of 2 subjectsand choose one of them for his/her team to play. The object was to get that subject down the line within a time limit of 40seconds. The player giving the hints would continue until his partnersays it, therefore continuing down the line. Getting all 4 before time expiredwould be known as the “Hot Streak”. However, should any team member repeat an importantword or sound, the scoring would stopright there. Simple words, like he, she or it was not counted. It’s only words that describe the subject they’re counted against using again. Every correct answerwas worth $100. After every round, the team would move up oneperson and the next-in-line became the captain and continue with new subjects. The 3rd round was worth $200 an answer, and whoever was ahead at the end of the 3rd round subjects won thegame, kept the money, and go on to the bonus round. If there was a tie in the score, the captain of the champion’s team saw a word and opted to play or pass down their team. If that team can convey the word down the line, they win. If not, the opponents win. The losers left with justconsolation prizes and their prize money if they were defeated champions.

THE BONUS ROUND

The winning team’s first captain would see a subjectwhile their teammates were faced away and wearingthe headphones. The captain would give 4 most obviousanswers they knew, and his/her teammates would have 20seconds (5 seconds each teammember) to get those 4 obvious words. The first subject, every right answer was $200 an answer. The second subject, every right answer was worth $300. The final subject would be 5 times as much, but all 4 answers had to be right to win the 5 timesamount. The highest anyone can win is $10,000 in the bonus round ($200 x 4 = $800. $300 x 4 = $1,200. $1,200 + $800 = $2,000 x 5 = $10,000). The champions returned to play again the next day.

Bruce Forsyth's Hot Streak is...

-Bruce Forsyth is well known for hosting The Price is Right, The Generation Game, Play Your Cards Right, and many other shows in Britain. He always opened the show with that spiel, “It’s nice to see you! To see you…” NICE!
-Gene Wood announced a few shows of Bruce Forsyth’s Hot Streak, until the reins were handed to Marc Summers prior to his hosting popularity of Double Dare. Yes folks, that was him, also the same guy who hosted John Salley's short-lived I Can't Believe You Said That!. But contrary to popular belief, Marc Summers did NOT announce The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime. As for Gene Wood, he announcedmany shows, including Card Sharks, Family Feud, and many other Goodson-Todman shows. Gene Wood died of cancer in 2004.
-What gave the show the early ax were ratings. Despite it was a great show, ABC pitted Bruce Forsyth’s Hot Streak against the first half-hour of The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune, both of which were recognized well. Hot Streak went through 4 pilots, one of which was Party Line hosted by Gene Rayburn in 1983. Bruce Forsyth did the other pilots.
-The illegal clue sound effect was the buzz-in sound effect from Family Feud
-Despite this didn’t last well in America, Ruck Zuck, the German version lasted 12 years and was based off the same format.

MY RATINGS:
I feel so bad that Bruce Forsyth’s Hot Streak was not given the chance it deserved, seeing what kind of game it was. If Bruce Forsyth was popular in Great Britain, he would be popular here in America, but with the timeslot it was given, that is asking for trouble. The money could’ve been worked up a bit despite it was 1986. I’m surprised that this show was a Reg Grundy Production, when other RG Production shows, like Scrabble and Sale of the Century, were on NBC, and this was on ABC. I really like the look of this show. I just wish it could’ve had a better chance.
