MARCIA CORNETT
Global GUTS

Marcia Cornett was a competitor on Global GUTS, Nickelodeon's World Championship for Kids. She billed herself from Grand Falls, NC in the USA. Nicknamed the Hornet, she found herself against competition from the CIS and Portugal. Her competitors:

Arnold Vareykis
FROM: Ukraine (CIS)
NICKNAME: The Terminator
Rita Almada Guerra
FROM: Portugal
NICKNAME: The Warrior

Going into the show, it was the last of their 12 taped shows. The USA had 5 gold medals, while Portugal had one, but the CIS had none. So, a win for either the CIS or Portugal would mean something to get closer to a great goal.
Marcia first battled against Arnold and Rita in a game of Dodge IT!, where the competitors were strapped to aerial harnesses and with balls falling from the ceiling, the idea was to catch the balls and throw them at your opponents, hitting them in the process. Marcia only made 2 hits while Arnold made 5 and Rita making 4, giving Arnold the first place points of 300, Rita second place points of 200, and Marcia the third place points of 100.

Then, it came into Mad Max, an event that took a competitor on a 3-wheeled bike around the track, through a junkyard, over jumps and across a foggy ridgeroad called Pothole Pass, and through the brick Dead End wall to end the race. Arnold originally clocked in at 24.6, but was given a 2-second penalty for his wheel barely slipping off the track when he left Pothole Pass, which allowed Marcia to slip in there for a faster time despite losing control after Pothole Pass. She finished at 22.8 seconds. Rita clocked in at 29.3 seconds, because she crashed into the wall after the jumps. This gave Marcia the first place points of 300 taking her to 400, despite Arnold still having first place with an overall 500 over Marcia's 400, and Rita's 300.

After she "spilt her guts," it was all about the pool as the 3 competitors competed in Invisible Boat. Arnold stopped his clock at 21.6 seconds, but Marcia said her best event was at swimming, and boy did she have a point! She quickly sped across the pool that even Mike O' Malley himself was almost speechless! She stopped the clock at 15.5 seconds, and Rita could not get enough power to stop that, clocking in at 41.0 even, which meant that Marcia now tied with Arnold.

The fourth event was Peak to Peak, where the competitors had to run across numerous peaks of mountains and back. Arnold made it across in 19.4 seconds, but was accessed a 2-second penalty for missing a peak. Marcia meant business as she clocked in at 16.6 seconds. Rita made it in second place at 21.0 seconds, which included a 2-second penalty for missing a peak of her own. Now, at 1,000 points, Marcia moved into the lead!

And then, it all came down to the Super Aggro Crag, the biggest and baddest of all the Crags GUTS had to offer. Despite Arnold had it slow climbing the Crag from Switchback Bend, Marcia and Rita were in a dead heat tie as they came into Avalanche Ledge and climbing the Ice Wall. Rita had a slight hesitation in the mid-section of the Ice Wall, which allowed Marcia to get up there for the win. Her final score, including the big 725 for first place on the Crag, she scored 1,725 points, winning 4 of the 5 events! With that, she took home the Global GUTS gold and a piece of the glowing Crag rock!

When you're on a competition show like GUTS, whether in its original form or the Global GUTS part, the most important thing is to have a good time and show everyone your skills. What I liked the most about Marcia was her speed, her skill in games, her competitive spirit. Despite the slow start in Dodge It, she came roaring out into the game starting at Mad Max and accessed no penalties. Despite the 2 penalties from Arnold and the one from Rita, Marcia still kept her speed level and made it in great form. No ifs, ands or buts ladies and gentlemen, Marcia had guts. DO YOU HAVE IT? GUTS!!!
