Cheryl Gilmore is a lady who I have outmost respect for. In my early days of the Temple, I had watched numerous videos and seeing the 1987 $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime, it was a show I got interested in. When then, I noticed in the comments on a second season bonus round that she was one of the 9 $1,000,000 winners, and I contacted her on YouTube and we had an interview together, learning how she got on the show, got through it with her now ex-husband, and everything like that. When I began Game Show Temple LIVE!, it started as a 30-minute show talking only of the weekly videos, but now, it's evolved into one of my favorite milestones of my life, talking about shows, playing games for fun, all sorts of things.
I got back in touch with Cheryl to see if she wanted to be a special guest on the second (technically third, since the REAL second ep. was erased due to BTR problems), and she accepted. We spoke about all 3 of her shows, with some callers popping up, and knowing how well she did with puzzles was intriguing, especially of how fast she got "ELEPHANTS NEVER FORGET," and "FOR HE'S A JOLLY GOOD FELLOW!". What shocked me somewhat was how she began an answer on her first episode when she got buzzed due to running out of time to answer that clue, which was "HARDWOOD," but she said that had she been able to say her answer, she would've said HARDWARE, and she pressed her buzzer right when the D came up.
But, what got to me the most was that on her third day (which was technically the next day after the taping of her first ep.), we learned about her third opponents, Jane and David Kavillion (if that's how you spelt it). She said that despite David was a nice guy, Jane was a determined lady, who told everyone that if they want to win, they may as well give up because she and David were going to win it. I saw on the second puzzle with not much letters that she quickly got "BASEBALL TRADING CARDS," and I'm like, "How did she get it that fast?!" Sure, I'm good with most puzzles on Wheel of Fortune, but this puzzle I didn't yet decypher, and Cheryl pointed out she was getting the puzzles faster than anyone else, which scared her. We also had found out that Jane claimed she pressed her buzzer before Cheryl did (it looked like the same time), which wasn't the case. That proves determination, and it can wear off quickly. That's why you have to remain calm under the lights and infront of the cameras.
Cheryl's daughter, Christine has two teenage children and formerly appeared on Fun House with J.D. Roth. In my experiences of Game Show Temple LIVE!, this early airing definitely helped put it on the map and I thank Cheryl for donating her time to talk of her additional experiences on the show, and I especially thank her and her friend for donating all 3 of her episodes to add to the trading circuit.
